In February 2019 I decided to be a student for a change so I booked in for one of Geoff Tonkin’s tool making course at the new forge adjoining the Molong workshop. Ian Percival ran the course – a man who knows all things steel. It was a wonderful change to learn about metal in my world of wood.
I chose to make a hook knife to be used at one of Jeff Donne’s (Spoonsmith) courses. The hook knife was cut out of an old saw blade then forged into a blade on the blacksmith’s anvil, then quenched, sharpened and polished. The handle was an offcut of Macassar Ebony.
